WilloWind Energy is a developer and operator of wind farms in the UK

Planning Application submitted for Gass Wind Farm

WilloWind Energy Ltd is pleased to confirm that it has submitted a planning application for its proposed Gass Wind Farm. The application for the project, which would be located on land north east of Glenluce, was submitted to Dumfries and Galloway Council on Monday 24th November.

In October 2012, the company made a request to the Scottish Government under Section 36 of the Electricity Act for a scoping opinion on a proposal to build a 19 turbine wind farm with a site capacity of 57 MW.

Since then WilloWind has restructured their Scottish operation and carried out a full review of a number of their planned projects, including Gass Wind Farm. The submission follows both this review and an extensive programme of consultation with the local communities, including a series of public exhibitions in the three local communities of Old Luce, New Luce and Kirkcowan in June of this year.  As a result of this engagement with key local stakeholders, including the three community councils, the scheme was revised to a 9 turbine scheme with a site capacity of 20.7MW.

Commenting on the revised plan, Suki Atwal, a director of WilloWind Energy, said: “One of our priorities is to improve the level of community consultation on our projects and I believe that Gass now represents a scheme the community can be proud of.  The development will yield both significant economic and social benefits to the surrounding areas of Glenluce, New Luce and Kirkcowan.

“Our community benefit package of £5,000 for every MW consented, totals over £100,000 per year over the 25 year lifespan of the project and provides a genuine opportunity for local communities to develop sustainable projects that will benefit not only the local economy but the communities themselves.  We will continue to engage with the communities on how best that can be done, in particular through our Community Liaison Forum which will meet regularly throughout the process.”
